I really want to keep the memory of my mom alive for Macey. She was so young when she died, but she says she does have a couple of memories of her. She told me she remembers "making Grandma laugh, and sitting on her lap but being so careful". Of course that made me cry.
So today we wanted to do something special for Grandma Judy. We went to the craft store and decided to buy a red, white and blue balloon for my very patriotic mother. We took them home and I asked Macey what things she would tell Grandma if she were able to, and I wrote them on the red balloon. The first thing she said is, "I still love my blanket". And then, "thanks for making my blanket." :) Her blanket is her best friend. She also said, "Happy Birthday Grandma" and "I love you and miss you". I was about to put the marker away cause it sounded like she was done when Macey said, "And I'm being very reverent and sitting quietly." Haha. I gave her a weird look and was like oooook. Maybe let's not put that on the balloon. So I started to put the marker away again and Macey said "no, write that!" I told her I didn't even know what it meant and she explained that her Sunbeam teachers had told her that if they (Sunbeams) are reverent and sit quietly that they would go to Heaven and live with Heavenly Father. That hit me like a ton of bricks. I just sat there, sobbing. Macey had linked living with Heavenly Father again to seeing Grandma again. Macey wanted Grandma to know that she's doing her part. :)
We then went outside and sent the balloons up to heaven. Macey was so nervous and asked "what if Grandma doesn't get them?!" And I told her that we'd just have to hope she does. ;)
When we couldn't see the balloons anymore Macey exclaimed "Well, I guess she got 'em!"
Happy Birthday Mom/Grandma! We love and miss you!

Oh my gosh, I am bawling my head off right now. That is the sweetest thing I have ever heard. I am so going to do that some time.
Macey is so smart, and she and mom were so close. I still can see Mom sitting in her chair and making Macey laugh- or was macey making mom laugh- I think both, but it was so precious.
I am so glad that Macey remember that.
One of my favorite memories are of mom and Macey:) Macey was able to make her laugh so hard when she was in so much pain! I'm so glad you sent balloons to her on her birthday:) Rick and I went for a walk and talked about her birthday and the memories we have. It has gone by so fast but I feel like she is still a part of my life.
That is such a great idea to keep your kids connected with their grandma. I hope it is a yearly tradition.
Danae- this post was beautiful. It made me cry. Your blog is awesome too, by the way. Thanks for sharing your life with us!
